During the celebration of Evening Prayer, 15 seminarians made a public profession of faith and oath of fidelity to God and His Church. These men will be ordained deacons in the next few months so it is an exciting time for them and for the rest of the seminary as, they, our brothers, are ordained for this ministry of service for God's people.
Our Rector, Fr. Trung Nguyen, emphasized during his homily that this is the same profession and oath that one makes prior to becoming a priest, pastor, bishop or even Pope. And he asked them to remember in gratitude this work of God work in them and all of the people who have walked with them along the way.
After the homily, the men stood, came forward and said the Nicene Creed and Oath of Fidelity together. Then they each went forward one by one to the altar and placed their hands on the book of the Gospels. When Evening Prayer concluded they stood along the walkway where they were congratulated by their brothers.
