What were you doing prior to entering seminary?
I studied Social Work and Psychology at Austin Community College and worked in Social Work for 4 years prior to entering the seminary.
In short, what is your vocation story? Why are you in seminary today?
My seminary vocation began by a simple invitation given to me by my pastor. I had been working in ministry since the age of 13 and people had asked me many times before if I had considered the priesthood but each time I would answer that I did not want to become a priest. However, after many years of getting to know priests and continually being invited to consider, I accepted the invitation from my pastor to attend "Project Andrew". After attending this event, I felt my heart being drawn into the discernment of priesthood. I have been in seminary since 2008 and every year I learn deeper reasons for why I feel God has invited me to take part in this beautiful journey. God loved us first and he invites us to love him in return, my vocation is an opportunity to respond to that love as best as I possibly can.
Advice to other men considering the priesthood:
Pray! It is of the utmost importance that you pray about life but more so about the possible vocation of priesthood. Don't be Afraid to take the leap and allow God to show you new things and to help you to come to know him in a deeper way. Have an open heart. Allow Jesus to speak to your heart and guide you, where your heart is so will you be.
