Diocese: San Angelo
Home Parish and City: Holy Family, Abilene
What were you doing prior to entering seminary? I entered seminary immediately after high school, so I was living with my family and staying busy with extracurricular events at school and helping with my local youth group.
Year of formation: Theology 1
In short, what is your vocation story? Why are you in seminary today? During high school, I began to learn more about my faith and was moved to pray more deeply. I was pulled by Christ in the Eucharist, and visited Him often in the adoration chapel in Abilene. I began to hear in my heart: "I want you to be my priest." In my spending time with Jesus, being active in my youth group, and listening to God speaking in the people and events in my life, I was led to begin true discernment of the priesthood. After contacting my vocation director in San Angelo and visiting Conception Seminary College in Missouri, I came to the conclusion that Jesus was calling me to enter seminary after I graduated high school.
While in college seminary at Conception, I truly got to know who Jesus is and how much He loves me. I also learned so much about who I am and how I fit into God's love for me. Now, as I begin my time at St. Mary's, I am looking forward to seeing what God has in store for me, learning how to be loved by Him, and coming to a clearer understanding of how I am to love Him back.
Advice to other men considering the priesthood: Listen to your heart, and just start moving! Pray, go on discernment retreats, visit different seminaries/religious orders, etc. Be active in your discernment!
